Ms. Regina,
I have never done this for a ghostwriter before, but allow me to commend you for admirably telling the story of one of the most difficult and boring times of my life. Not being able to rob or maim or dress down anyone on that station for several years is the stuff nightmares are made of.
I must, however, dress you down for violating the top rule in my voluminous list of rules for ghostwriters: You used the word âgoodâ (I hate to even use it here, but I have no other recourse) and several variations thereof in the manuscript you turned in. That is strictly forbidden.
âGoodâ is not something to aspire to. Itâs not a term that should be used to describe something thatâs satisfactory. âGoodâ is how huge-toothed buffoons in capes and underwear like to describe themselves as they mete out vigilante âjusticeâ with no sanction and no plan of attack. Itâs what idiots go to movies to learn all the wrong lessons about. Itâs a buzzword. A fleeting fancy. A promise unkept. A grandiose lie.
What made you think I would make some exception for you to use this forbidden, contraband word?

Grand sire of everyone,
Iâm afraid I have been caught off guard by all this. I wish I had a good reason to give you for my slip-ups, but the genuine truth of it all is that âgoodâ is quite simply a word Iâm too used to writing, and as such it just managed to worm its way into this chapter a few times. I fully understand and am sympathetic to your distaste for the word, but nonetheless it is one I use often. I have no other excuse and apologize profusely.
I will point out, howeverâand this isnât intended to make you appear as if you are anything but completely and unequivocally right in every matterâthat in The Supervillain Handbook, the word âgoodâ appears numerous times; itâs simply followed by âbadâ in parentheses. I read that book very carefully to try and better understand you and your methods, so perhaps some of that rubbed off on me as well.
No excuses. Iâm sorry.

I wish I could accept your apology, Ms. Regina, but Iâm afraid I cannot. Let me take your points in reverse:
1) Yes, the word does appear a few times in The Supervillain Handbook and one of the punishments I inflicted on my ghostwriter at the time was forcing him to go back through the manuscript and add the word âbadâ next to each instance. I also bashed his hands with a giant mallet for several hours. So thatâs why that is the way it is.
2) You say you continually wrote the word out of âhabit,â but let me ask you this: If you were to, say, routinely light
